About the event
Ferdinand Adler (1903-1952) was a violinist from Vienna who fled to Shanghai to escape the Nazis. There, Mingliang Sheng (1932-2023), who narrowly escaped the Japanese invaders as a child, became his student. Today, the story of the two unfolds through their adult children, Christina and Fang, who meet each other for the first time. Paul Rosdy's sensitive film - together with the use of exciting archive materials - highlights the historical and personal lines and illuminates Jewish exile from a Chinese perspective. (Florian Widegger).
The documentary will premiere in Vienna's Film Archiv Austria from November 8 to 24, 2024. Paul Rosdy, Christina Adler, and Fang Sheng will attend the opening night on November 8.
